Maha Oya to Manampitiya on B502 through Maduru Oya National Park

It was a weekend in June 2018 and we were on our way back to Colombo from Ampara after visiting some of our relatives. While driving home, this time we thought of tying out a new route home without using our usual way to Colombo. So, we decided to turn form Maha Oya Junction to B502 road towards Manampitiya. Distance from Maduru Oya to Manampitiya is little over 58 kilometres and part of it is fallen through the Maduru Oya National Park.

Even though the route we have chosen is longer over a 100 kilometres than our usual way, we never regret our decision... The whole journey was filled with splendid sights all over us.

After a while driving through B502 we entered to the most amazing part of the route, which was through the Maduru Oya National Park. We were surrounded with wonderful greenery spreaded towards the infinity. It was a hot sunny day, so the clear blue sky and the green environment was a fantastic color combination.

After travelling about 25 kilometres we noticed a small connecting road towards the Maduru Oya Dam, so we though of having a look. With the permission of the security officials at the entrance point, we entered and drove towards to the dam. It was an awesome and wonderful experience... So, we didn't forgot to capture few photographs.

After spending some time there, we again started our journey... There were number of attractions in between, but due to limited time span we missed exploring those places. Henanigala Raja Maha ViharayaWeerathalawa Natabun Viharaya & The Rock are few such attractions we missed.

As we spend extra time choosing a longer route and in several attractions, our journey back to Colombo was delayed by couple of hours. So, we decided to move fast during the next part of the journey. Though, we didn't forget to explore the beauty of the surroundings. Most of the parts of the road was shaded by heavily grown trees and peaks.

After all, it was indeed a wonderful experience for all of us, and we never feel contrite about the decision about choosing this longer route spending extra time and fuel...
